The Handmade Bakery, a not-for-profit community-supported bakery in Marsden, West York-shire, has acquired permanent premises after four months of using the pizza ovens at a local Italian restaurant, Mozzarella’s.The new bakery, on Carr Lane in Slaithwaite, will open on 15 August, and will be the first time the bakery, established in March this year, has had its own premises. Until now, it has been working with other businesses in the community. Its bread is baked at Mozzarella’s and then sold to subscribers through a distribution service at the Riverhead micro-brewery pub and retails at Pennine Wholefoods. The business is run according to the same principles as Community Supported Agricul-ture (CSA), a concept popular in America. It allows the community to become more involved in the cycle of food and have more of a say in how it is produced. The new premises, a couple of miles from Marsden, is located in the same space as a community-owned greengrocers and deli. The bakery will sell its products in the shop, but will continue to distribute, as before, in Marsden, explained community baker and owner of The Handmade Bakery Dan McTiernan. The bakery offers subscriptions of one, three, six or 12 months, with discounts offered dependent on the length of subscription. Subscribers choose from a core range of breads, but are also emailed weekly with a range of speciality breads, which they can choose to switch to.”Transition Town Initiative, a worldwide community-based idea to, for example, lower reliance on fossil fuels and rebuild resilience in communities, had a mailing list of around 150 people in our area – the first people we targeted to subscribe, then it mainly spread through word-of-mouth,” explained McTiernan. The Handmade Bakery produces additive-free bread, such as English Country Cob, Malted and Seeded Granary and The Great White, made from organic and locally sourced ingredients and using traditional slow- fermentation processes.

Embed from Getty ImagesBristol City boss Lee Johnson confirmed after leaving Luke Freeman out against Cardiff that the decision was taken because of doubts over the player’s future.West London Sport recently revealed that QPR had made a move for the 24-year-old winger, whose Robins contract expires at the end of the season. That offer was rejected and City have offered him a new deal, leaving Rangers to consider their options. One of those options is to try to sign Freeman on a pre-contract agreement for the end of the season, as City have indicated that they do want to sell. However, Johnson appeared to suggest after his team’s 3-2 home defeat against Cardiff that Freeman’s time at Ashton Gate could be up unless he agrees to sign a contract extension – and that a decision needs to be made soon.Johnson told his club’s website that Freeman’s omission “had everything to do with the contract situation.”Embed from Getty ImagesHe added: “The objective remains that we want Luke to stay and sign the contract, but there always comes a tipping point.“Luke has two good clubs interested in him. One is closer to home; the other is one where he has made his name, improving year on year and where he is loved by the staff, players and fans.“The contract remains there for him to sign but he hasn’t yet. In a derby I just felt that I couldn’t risk having anyone out there who may not have been committed.“I’m not for one minute saying that Luke is not committed, but there’s clearly a lot going through his mind at the moment.“We still live in hope that he’ll sign the contract but we can’t leave that on the table forever. We have to do what’s right for Bristol City first and foremost.”He has to make a decision and do that reasonably quickly.”See also:QPR still eyeing deal for Bristol City’s Freeman Ads by Revcontent Trending Articles Urologists: Men, Forget the Blue Pill! Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Some plants don’t have much of a root system while others show a beautiful root system with no shoot. What is going on? In each case I have looked at this year, each farmer was using more than 30 pounds of total nitrogen (N) (28% plus 10-34-0) and/or sulfur in a 2×2 system. These reduced stands appear to be caused by fertilizer injury burn.Urea ammonium nitrate (28% UAN) is made up of 50% urea, 25% ammonium, and 25% nitrate. When urea volatilizes, it turns into ammonia (the same type of ammonia in anhydrous ammonia) and is lost to the air. That’s why we need to work in urea (or stabilize it) within a few days after application if we are using it as a N source. As a starter, stabilizing N is not recommended and is not normally a problem. So what made urea volatilize faster this year?Volatility of urea is microbial driven, so warmer temperatures make this reaction occur more quickly. Urea can volatilize within two days in warmer temperatures. If the corn plant took up water slower (due to drying conditions, soil type, or planting depth), then the root system looks burned. If the plant took up water more quickly, then the root system developed and the coleoptile was burned off.Soils that are drying out cause the ammonia gas to move away from the 2×2 band, so moist soils followed by drying conditions cause more volatility. This is the same reason why anhydrous ammonia is injected 7 to 8 inches deep, because the ammonia gas will move up from the point of injection until it hits water. As the soil dries the ammonia will move up faster.Urea volatility is enhanced by higher pH. Unfortunately, the conditions that cause us to have higher yields can also increase volatility (both are due to enhanced microbial activity).Higher rates of N in a 2×2 band has the potential to volatilize more anhydrous, thus causing more burn. This, along with higher temperatures and drying soils, is the reason why farmers who are applying higher rates of a starter may see more damage.

Medication may be the typical ADHD treatment strategy, but ADHD medications treat the symptoms, not the root causes, of ADHD. Moreover, research shows that while ADHD medications offer a short-term academic boost, their long-term benefit is basically zero. Plus, most pharmaceutical approaches to ADHD treatment can cause side effects ranging from insomnia to heart palpitations. ADHD Treatment AlternativesBefore defaulting to medication as an ADHD treatment for you or your children, talk to your doctor. Decide together whether any of the following non-pharmaceutical treatments might work:1. Curricula that addresses ADHD’s causesTwo individuals with the same ADHD symptoms might be struggling with the disorder for different reasons. For one, it could be an issue with processing auditory information. For another, it might be cognitive processing challenges. A third might simply be overly sensitive to light and sound. All three people may appear to have the same issues, but each has unique strengths and challenges stemming from separate causes.Programs that work to address sensory-motor integration and cognitive processing speed have been shown to be particularly effective for ADHD treatment. Axiom Learning, an education service founded by Harvard University alumni, uses gamified exercises as part of its LEAP 3.0 program to accelerate cognitive processing and improve sensory-motor integration. Because it’s a cause-oriented ADHD treatment, many sufferers find they no longer have the condition at the program’s end.2. Executive function coachingDo you have trouble starting tasks or remembering important information? Is time management your Achilles’ heel? If so, your executive functioning skills might need some attention. Think of executive functioning skills as your brain’s CEO: Without an effective leader, you’ll struggle with self-management, learning, and decision-making tasks. Just like CEOs hire coaches to hone their leadership skills, ADHD sufferers benefit from consistent and targeted practice to strengthen their executive functioning skills. Learning Efficiency’s Executive Functioning program addresses executive functioning challenges, like time management and organization, as well as underlying processing issues such as working memory and attention. With targeted coaching and improved organizational skills, everything becomes easier to manage. 3. DietWithout adequate ADHD treatment, you may notice your symptoms are worse at certain times of day than others, such as when blood-sugar levels spike or drop. Nutritional interventions can mitigate many symptoms associated with ADHD, such as hyperactivity, poor concentration, impulsivity, and oppositional behavior. Research shows that an elimination diet — which cuts out sugar, gluten, dairy, eggs, certain meats, and food dyes — improved symptoms in 70 percent of children with ADHD. Whether part of a broader ADHD treatment plan or not, maintaining a healthy diet is critical. Get plenty of protein, replace simple carbohydrates with more complex ones, and eat more omega-3 fatty acids. Also known as the mediterranean diet, this combination is not only associated with better health outcomes, but also a lower prevalence of ADHD. 4. Cognitive behavior therapyAlthough children and adults with ADHD experience emotions similar to those of their peers, they have more difficulty in recognizing, responding to, and managing their emotions. Something as small as a snide comment by a friend might make them feel incapable or anxious. In their moment of stress, they might snap at a peer for something unrelated. And all it takes is a couple instances of this behavior to start a pattern — something an ADHD treatment plan can address.Although discussing destructive thoughts and behaviors might not seem like an ADHD treatment, CBT has a lot of evidence behind it. A study on adolescent ADHD treatment published in Focus, a psychiatry journal, found that CBT can significantly improve self-efficacy and daily functioning abilities in teens with comorbid anxiety or depression diagnoses. 5. Competitive sportsNumerous studies have shown exercise is one of the best natural treatments for ADHD. In both children and adults with ADHD, researchers at the Journal of Neural Transmission found that exercise improved cognitive, behavioral, and social-emotional functioning. Although both resistance and endurance exercises were effective, researchers noted cardio exercise was the better ADHD treatment for executive functioning and sensorimotor development. While the benefits of individual exercise are clear, group exercise may be an even more effective ADHD treatment. Dr. Danielle Fisher at Providence Saint John’s Health Center argues that in addition to helping individuals with ADHD learn discipline and sensorimotor skills, team sports help them learn social skills. That added benefit may be a key reason that, contrary to Ohio State University researchers’ expectations, people with ADHD participate in team sports at twice the rate of their peers. 6. Mindfulness MeditationMindfulness meditation doesn’t just feel good; it’s also an effective ADHD treatment. Mind-body therapies — including meditation, yoga, and Tai Chi — were found by a meta study published in Children to be effective pediatric ADHD treatments for symptoms ranging from anxiety to hyperactivity to emotional dysfunction. Perhaps the best part of meditative ADHD treatment is that it can be practiced anywhere. Although it can be tough to predict when symptoms will flare, set aside time after events, like tests or presentations, that you expect to be overstimulating. Simply listening to yourself breathe or watching traffic for five minutes is a great way to still your mind. Medication may be the standard ADHD treatment strategy, but it’s not the only one. When evaluating each ADHD treatment option, consider whether it can address the disorder’s underlying causes. Pills may provide temporary relief from symptoms, but they’re not the miracle ADHD treatment they’re often promoted as. WASHINGTON – U.S. homebuilders are feeling more optimistic than they have in nearly two decades. The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo builder sentiment index released Monday rose five points to 74 this month. That’s the highest reading since July of 1999, more than 18 years ago.Readings above 50 indicate more builders see sales conditions as good rather than poor. The index has remained above 60 since September of 2016.The index exceeded the expectations of analysts surveyed by FactSet, who expected a reading of 70.All three components of the index rose in December. The reading gauging builders’ view of single-family home sales rose four points to 81, while the outlook for sales over the next six months ticked up three points to 79. The measure of traffic by prospective buyers jumped eight points to 58.The Commerce Department reported late last month that Americans bought new homes in October at the fastest pace in a decade — a 6.2 per cent monthly increase — reflecting a strong economy but also a worsening shortage of existing homes for sale.New home sales last month rose to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 685,000, the third straight monthly gain and the best sales clip since October 2007.Many buyers are turning to new construction due to an ongoing dearth of existing homes for sale. However, new construction has been unable to keep up with demand.Potential buyers are searching for homes amid a healthy job market with a 4.1 per cent unemployment rate and attractive 30-year mortgage rates that are averaging less than 4 per cent.
