first_imgSunderland have completed the signing of midfielder Jack Rodwell from Manchester City on a five-year deal. The 23-year-old struggled with injuries after joining City from Everton in August 2012 and has started just seven Premier League games in the past two seasons. With the arrival of Fernando earlier this summer increasing the champions’ central midfield options, he was deemed surplus to requirements by Manuel Pellegrini. Now he will look to get his career back on track under Gus Poyet at the Stadium of Light, having joined the Black Cats for an undisclosed fee.“I met up with the head coach and all the people involved with the club,” Rodwell said. “They told me about the club and their vision and it swayed me.“It’s such a good club with passionate fans and I can’t wait to get on board. This is a great place for me to be.”Rodwell had been considered one of the brightest talents in the country after bursting on to the scene as a teenager at Everton.Having come through the Merseyside club’s academy, he made his senior debut for the Toffees at the age of just 16.He made more than 100 appearances for Everton in all competitions before being snapped up by City for an initial fee of £12million in 2012.But it proved to be a miserable stay at the Etihad, and he will now hope to get back to his best at Sunderland.
