ELLSWORTH — Ellsworth/Sumner’s Connor Crawford was announced Monday as one of 12 semifinalists for the Fitzpatrick Trophy, awarded annually to the top senior player in Maine high school football.Leading the way for Ellsworth/Sumner in its first season of eight-man football this year, Crawford rushed for 1,632 yards and 22 touchdowns and passed for 218 yards and four touchdowns. On defense, he recorded 39 solo tackles, 12 assisted tackles, one interception and one sack.Crawford was an All-Campbell Conference selection this season and earned All-Little Ten Conference honors in 2017 and 2018. He was a three-year captain for Ellsworth/Sumner, which made its first-ever playoff appearance during Crawford’s sophomore season before returning to the postseason at the eight-man level this year.The eight-man class had another Fitzpatrick Trophy semifinalist in Gerit Laliberte of Maranacook. Other semifinalists were Justin Bryant (Marshwood), Ryan Connors (Kennebunk), Jarett Flaker (Scarborough), Kobe Gaudette (Thornton Academy), Cam Jordan (Leavitt), Payton MacKay (Wells), Zach Maturo (Bonny Eagle), Anthony Poole (South Portland), Owen Richardson (Brunswick) and Sean Tompkins (Cheverus).This is placeholder textThis is placeholder textThree players will be chosen as award finalists in early January.
